Hackney Kids Carnival – 2018

This year Hackney Council started a new Kids Carnival. Dimensions worked with Colvestone Primary over 4 weeks to prepare a dance piece for the Carnival day.

Dimensions worked with the Year 4 class, who were very excited for the opportunity to learn something new and also perform for their school, parents and public. The class worked worked hard to put together ‘themed’ Cabaret’ dance pieces.

On the day the Year 4 group was supported by Dimension’s very own dance troop. Both groups worked together to put on a great performance for the public.

The classes hard graft was rewarded, as they were awarded ‘Best Dance’ and were over-welmed at the trophy presentation.

Thanks to everyone involved that made the day a success.

Dimensions at Soca Monarchs

Dimension’s dancers was asked by JoMoney to choreograph for the Soca Monarch competition in Scala, King Cross. As we had already started working with JoMoney we were excited working with her again. We worked as part of a team as there were many aspects to what the judges at the event were looking for and took this in our stride.
We only had a limited amount of time to get the production together, working with a live band and backing singers, but as the event approached we were ready.
At the Soca Monarchs we rehearsed and prepared for our performance. The performance was amazing and all feel good about how the evening went. When the results came in we were delighted to find that JoMoney had won her category.
Thanks to JoMoney for the opportunity to perform and be a part of an epic night.

Big Dance Bus – Westfield Centre

Dimension’s dance group ‘Infusion’ performed as part of the Big Dance Bus at Westfield Shopping centre. It was a good day and no sign of rain. The dance performed a carnival inspired set and got to wear their costumes for the first time in the lead up to Nottinghill Carnival. the group got a superb response, with many onlookers wanting to get involved. Thanks to Big Dance Bus for another great event and to our dancers for a wonderful show.

Collaborating with Brouhaha

Dimensions joined again with Brouhaha as part of their ‘New Voices’ project, which brings together different dancers, singers, musicians and makers together to share ideas, connect and perform at Liverpool’s annual Carnival.
For this project Dimensions bring together different dancers from London who were a part of different fractions of carnival/ african dance. We wanted to give dancers who do not normally get to travel and network as art of their work.
As a group we travelled to Liverpool on the Thursday before carnival and joined in with the workshops provided by Brouhaha. There was a variety of workshops available to participants including dance, music dan creative sessions and a panel of professionals who were giving diamond advice for those who run their organisations and resources available. During the trip we also had celebratory evenings where the dancing groups got to perform and Dimensions participated in the costumes competition, where one of our group won. Scrappy a Soca singer from London also held his Soca Music Festival on conjunction with the Liverpool Festival which was a nice touch to the events of the weekend.
On the day of the Liverpool the Dimensions Team was given our own buggy where we could perform our routines we also had Dj spy giving us vibes all day.
Thanks to Giles and his team who made the trip a success, and also well done to all participates of the trip.
