On the 1st August Dimensions dance team performed a carnival parade in Finsbury Park to start the opening of a new play area with Councillor Hearn. It was a great day and all dancers enjoyed the day and attracted new audiences to carnival and the projects that Dimensions creates.
On an Epically Hot Summer’s day Dimensions joined many other performers and organisers on the 13th July at the UKON carnival in Barking Learning Centre.
This was the debut of the team’s 2019 ‘A Spoonful Of Sugar’ theme for the Dimensions dance team, who performed their set piece and also led the carnival parade.
The group enjoyed the day and were all excited to do their first performance as a team. The group’s performance was well received and as part of the day we successfully introduced new audiences to the Carnival culture.
Hackney Carnival this year was another Epic day, we collaborated with Jamboulay Mas Band. The group met at Hagerstown Park to dress, eat and practice our routines. The parade started late, but all the participants got involved and performed all the way through.
At the judging point the group performed the themed set piece, which was well recieved. Everyone who participated with us really enjoyed the Carnival day and we even had one of the dancers from Colvestone Primary who performed with us for Hackney Kids carnival.
The Dimension’s performing group were given second place for our judging point piece, which excited the team and gave them a boost for future performances.
Thanks to everyone who made the day special. For more information or to join future projects please contact us.
Since starting the Showtime project in October, all the members have been training at Cape Adventure Playground weekly and preparing for the carnival season.
This project was able to mix a unique group of locals, as many of the participants have not been in a dance group or even performed before. The group is also a mixture of ages and abilities, who all worked together with choreographer Gemma to create a set piece using the year’s theme.
All the practice paid off as they debuted their set piece at the UKON Children’s Celebration at the Barking Learning Centre.
The performance went great and all members went away feeling that they have accomplished something and are excited for the upcoming performances.
